OpenClaw founder spends $1.3 million monthly on AI coding agents

Peter Steinberger, the founder of OpenClaw, has revealed that he spends a staggering $1.3 million monthly to operate 100 AI agents that assist in coding, reviewing pull requests (PRs), and identifying bugs. These agents, powered by OpenAI's Codex, are integral to the team's workflow, handling tasks such as security analysis and issue deduplication while also engaging in team discussions to generate new PRs based on project goals. The team utilizes various tools, including Clawpatch.ai and Vercel's Deepsec, to enhance their agent workflow and ensure robust software development.

The financial investment in AI automation has led to significant operational insights, with the OpenAI API bill reflecting 603 billion tokens processed and 7.6 million requests made in just 30 days. Steinberger emphasized the potential for cost reduction, noting that disabling "Fast Mode" could lower expenses by 70%.
