OpenClaw has officially rebranded from its previous names, Clawd and Moltbot, to establish a clearer identity for its open agent platform. The transition, announced by Peter Steinberger on January 29, 2026, reflects the project's evolution from a weekend hack into a widely recognized tool, garnering over 100,000 GitHub stars and 2 million visitors in just one week. The new name emphasizes the platform's commitment to open-source principles and its community-driven approach, while also paying homage to its lobster heritage.

In conjunction with the rebranding, OpenClaw is introducing several exciting features, including new integrations for Twitch and Google Chat, as well as support for advanced models like KIMI K2.5 and Xiaomi MiMo-V2-Flash. The platform allows users to maintain control over their data by running the AI automation directly on their chosen infrastructure, whether it be a laptop, homelab, or VPS.
